Snacks at School

When you can, please support your child in packing a healthy snack for the day. The school offers fresh fruit or veggie Tuesday-Friday during snack time. I often have "emergency snacks" in my room for those who may not have had the opportunity to pack one at home.

Some really good options for snacks include: trail mix, crackers, fruits, veggies, cheese, yogurts, cereals that are not sugar heavy (Cheerios or Life!), rice cakes, popcorn, granola bars.

Some things to refrain from include: chips, cookies, donuts, sugary cereal, sodas or other sugary drinks.

Snack is usually only 5-10 minutes long, so something quick and easy is best!

Students are allowed to have a water bottle at their desk and are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. I ask them not to keep any colorful liquids at their desk (Vitamin Water, juice, etc.) and they need to be kept in a spill-proof container. (Cans and mugs are not preferred.) However, healthy non-water drinks may be consumed during snack or lunch.

Here's a website that has some healthy after school snack suggestions! Some look kind of fancy and time consuming, but others seem quick! http://www.parenting.com/gallery/healthy-kids-snacks
