Yesterday, we learned the precipitate in our cup #1 (the one with the calcium chloride and baking soda) was calcium bicarbonate -- a fancy way of saying chalk!
The children had the opportunity to filter the precipitate from the liquid by using a small coffee filter, and a second cup. When we return from vacation, we will see what has happened to our liquid. Will it all evaporate? Will anything be left behind?
We will also conduct an experiment to see how the calcium bicarbonate reacts to vinegar.
