Science Matters

Fizz Quiz Investigation 1

Today, students explored the various chemical reactions that can take place when two materials are mixed and water is added. The materials used in this lab included baking soda, calcium chloride, citric acid, and water. The materials were mixed two at a time, in three separate cups, and observed for reactions. Some mixtures bubbled and fizzed, some resulted in an odor, one was milky while the other two were more clear. Students practiced their observational skills, scientific language usage, and really had to pay close attention to following specific directions!

Hopefully, we will have the chance to do a follow-up experiment using today's mixtures tomorrow.
